Ancient Dwelling-Site of Dong-Son, The
The Ancient Dwelling-Site of Dong-Son is a reprint of the rare volume 3 of Archaeological Research in Indo-China. Dong-Son was discovered in 1924. It became famous for the finds of the bronze drums, later called Dong-Son drums.
The bronzes excavated belong to the Han Dynasty 206 BCE till 220 CE
The site was excavated in the 1930s and the material was studied. The area was under Chinese control at that time. The question is: who were the people?
'We have reasons to assume that the bulk of the Dong Son population was so called "Indonesian" or proto-Malayan stock. It is possible that an influx of Thai and a mixture of them, the Chinese and the "Indonesians" took place in the last centuries B.C. and the first century AD'.
Much more material is uncovered since then and there are many more publications about the Bronze Drums found in present day Vietnam and also China. But it may be of interest to study the beginning of these important finds and who actually created that culture
