Postcards of Fleuve Rouge River Transport: Old Postcard Series, Vol. 10: Transport
Postcards of Fleuve Rouge River Transport: Old Postcard Series, Vol. 10: Transport
- By: Ande, Diethard
Postcards of Fleuve Rouge River Transport is a continuation of volume 8 on Mekong traffic covering three parts: upper Mekong from Khone Island to Luang Prabang, Cambodia up to Khone and the Cochinchina Delta trade with endpoint Saigon.
Part 1 covers the Haiphong harbor as center for overseas trade as well as river trade on the Fleuve Rouge including the Hanoi harbor.
Part 2 deals with the and 100 Dieulefils bilingual cards (French & Italian) of the Yunnan railway series.
Part 3 shows the Car Race Peking-Paris. An early attempt by Europeans to try to connect Asia with Europe on a land route, which today the US tries to block by all means.
Part 4 shows cars in Indochina before 1910
After the French realized that the Mekong was not suitable for river trade with China, the route from Tonkin was developed by river as far as possible and then by the railway line, starting from Haiphong to the Chinese border in Laokai and the second section, or continuation, to Yunnan Fu (present day Kunming) the capital of Yunnan Province. The complete railway line will be discussed further in a forthcoming Railway volume based also on postcards.
